Five Things February

Here are 5 things I’ve been loving this month:

1. Sketch Dailies
Sketch Dailies is a Twitter account that posts daily drawing prompts for artists. Some days the prompts are as simple as ‘mermaid’ or ‘griffin’, and some days it’s stuff I have to Google, like ‘babayaga’, and ‘Egon Spengler'(I totally would have known who he was if I wasn’t movie challenged). It’s so cool to see each artists’ unique take on the subjects. If you’re looking for a fun challenge or just want to be crazy inspired by amazing artists, follow them @sketch_dailies

2. Josh Groban
Several months ago I discovered Josh Groban was in a concert version of one of my favorite musicals, Chess. Since then he has quickly become my favorite singer/songwriter. I mean, how can you not like him? He’s handsome, has the most incredible voice ever, and he’s hilarious. He’s become pretty popular on Twitter, and if you’re not following him, you’re missing out. I just bought his latest album, All That Echoes, and oh man is it good! I cannot stop listening to it! My favorite Groban songs right now are ‘Brave’, ‘False Alarms’, and ‘Higher Window’. Oh and ‘Happy In My Heartache’…and ‘Broken Vow’…I could go on and on! (P.S. Also today is Josh Groban’s birthday!! Yay!)

3. East of Eden
Maybe you read The Grapes of Wrath or Of Mice and Men in school. Both are great, but my favorite book by John Steinbeck is East of Eden. This book may have even moved up to being my all-time (for now) favorite book, a title which To Kill a Mockingbird laid claim throughout high school. It’s beautiful and heartbreaking and I have thought about it long after I finished it. (P.S. Today is Steinbeck’s birthday and the doodle on Google is in his honor, with beautiful illustrations and quotes from his books! Sadly, East of Eden isn’t featured.)

4. Nickel Creek
The band is back together! After a 7 year hiatus, Nickel Creek has announced that they are going on tour again and are releasing their new album, A Dotted Line, on April 1st (please tell me this is not a cruel joke!!!). I am so excited! Nickel Creek has been one of favorite bands for a long time. My Dad loves bluegrass and when I was a kid I usually didn’t enjoy listening to his music. That is until he bought a Nickel Creek CD (for Chris Thile’s killer mandolin playing) and I fell in love with their unique folk sound. So, thank you Dad!

5. Dallas
I have lived in North Texas for a combined total of 15 years of my life. Pretty much the whole time I was like “ew, Texas.” But since I moved back, I’ve realized that Texas is pretty nice. Especially Dallas. I went to Dallas a few weeks ago for the first time since I moved back, and… Dallas is cool, y’all. I only got to walk around a little part of it, but hopefully I’ll go back soon to explore some more!

DALLAS

That’s it for now!
